To provide leadership, technical assistance, and administer programming that helps people conserve, improve and sustain our natural resources and environment.
The Meigs County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a division of the State of Tennessee government and is organized under the authority of the Soil Conservation District Act, Chapter No. 197, Public Acts of 1939, State of TN. The Meigs County SWCD was chartered in February of 1952 by founding supervisors: Taylor Wilson, Edd Norman, J.H. Hornsby, Floyd Norton, and Trey E. Skelton. The SWCD works with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to provide technical and finacial assistance for landowners & agricultural producers in Meigs County. Each district is responsible for conservation programs within their county. A board of supervisors is comprised of six local residents who are recommended by a local nominating committee and appointed by the State Soil Conservation Committee.
